Interview with Luc Laurent Project Manager and CSR Referent in France among Mérieux NutriSciences’ employees The CSR Referent Manager position was created in France a year ago. What is it all about ? The role of the CSR referent is to: • advise on good practices and to promote CSR initiatives within the company, • ensure the development of the CSR approach in line with other policies: HR, Production, Pur- chasing..., • set up performance monitoring indicators and communicate with internal and external stakeholders on the current situation and ongoing actions. Our customers are asking us more about our commitments, our actions and our results. They are choosing to ask their questions either through a CSR rating platform, a precise list of questions or through more general open questions. How is CSR perceived within Mérieux NutriSciences France? The presentation of the CSR initiative, the projects initiated by the corporate and the actions planned in France have been very well received by employees. Being dedicated to the protection of public health by preventing health risks related to the safety and quality of products is already a noble mission and displaying this commitment in a report is an additional source of pride. What are the next steps? We have just completed our Carbon Assessment. With over 8,000,000 km / yr from our fleet of vehicles, travel-related emissions account for 69% of our emissions sources. We did not wait for this assessment to work on reducing our kilometers and reducing our fuel consumption, however, to reach the targets set by France (reducing by 75% its CO2 emissions by 2050 compared to the level of 1990), the progress to be made and the new solutions to be considered are important which constitutes a motivating challenge. Another important axis is to increase the recycling rate of our OIW (Ordinary Industrial Waste). In CSR, as well as in quality, the improvement is infinite. 14
